Fees

This is a private practice without statutory health insurance (GKV) approval. All services are billed as private services. Depending on your situation, you will find all relevant information below.

How much does therapy cost in Germany?

With statutory health insurance (GKV), therapy is free of charge if the therapist has a Kassensitz, a licence to bill the public insurers. Waiting times for a first appointment there are often several months. In private practices, psychotherapy is billed according to the official fee schedule for psychotherapists (GOP). A 50-minute session then usually costs between about €100 and €168, depending on the type of treatment and the multiplier. Private health insurance (PKV) and Beihilfe usually reimburse these costs, depending on your policy.

How the fee schedule (GOP) works

Every service has a number and a base fee. The invoiced amount is the base fee times a multiplier (Steigerungssatz) between 1.0 and 3.5. Up to 2.3 is the standard rate. Above 2.3, the invoice must give a reason, for example particular difficulty or time required, or a written fee agreement must be signed before treatment. The point value has not changed since 1996. Since July 2024, new billing recommendations agreed with private insurers and Beihilfe apply. Typical amounts for 50 minutes at the standard rate of 2.3:

  • Initial consultation or short-term therapy (GOP 812a): €134.06
  • Behavioural therapy in longer treatment (GOP 870): €100.55
  • Mental status assessment (GOP 801a): €33.52, usually billed in addition per session. This is the documented assessment of your current mental state, such as mood, thinking, anxiety and drive.

Some practices bill a flat session fee instead, for example the behavioural therapy session (GOP 870) at a multiplier of 3.5, which comes to €153.00, with a justification or a fee agreement. In my practice, an individual session for self-paying clients costs between €153 and €168, depending on which fee numbers are billed. Individual therapy / Psychotherapy

Private health insurance (PKV)

Whether and to what extent private health insurance covers psychotherapy depends on your contract. Many plans cover psychotherapy with a licensed psychotherapist, online as well as in person. I invoice according to the fee schedule for psychotherapists (GOP).

Please check with your insurer before starting therapy:

  • Is psychotherapy covered by my policy?
  • Up to which multiplier are fees reimbursed?
  • How many sessions are reimbursed, and to what extent?
  • Is prior authorisation required?
  • How many sessions are possible without prior authorisation?

In my experience, private insurers have so far reimbursed online sessions without any problems. A quick check before you start still gives you certainty.

I am happy to support you with the authorisation process and can provide a clinical report if required.

Civil servants / Beihilfe

Beihilfe covers psychotherapy, at the percentage that applies to you. I invoice according to the fee schedule for psychotherapists (GOP).

The remaining share is usually covered by a supplementary private health insurance, depending on your contract.

Please check the following before starting therapy:

  • How many sessions are initially reimbursed without a prior application?
  • What documents must be submitted?

In my experience, Beihilfe has so far also reimbursed online therapy without problems. It is still worth a quick check with your Beihilfe office beforehand.

Self-pay

You can access my services as a self-paying client, without authorisation from a health insurer, without a diagnosis, and without reports shared with third parties.
